Hendricks County is located in the U.S. state of Indiana, and was officially established on December 20, 1823. It was named after Indiana Governor William Hendricks, who served from 1822 till 1825. The county is part of the Indianapolis metropolitan area, and its population has been steadily growing throughout the years.

The original inhabitants of Hendricks County were Native American tribes, such as the Miami and the Delaware. In the early 19th century, European settlers, primarily from states like Ohio, Kentucky, and Pennsylvania, started to migrate to the area, leading to the establishment of the county. Agriculture was the primary industry in the county for most of its history, with corn and wheat as the main crops.

Danville, the county seat, was founded in 1824 and is known for its historic sites and architecture. Its downtown area is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The town of Plainfield, another significant community in Hendricks County, was founded in 1839 and played a crucial role in Indiana's transportation history due to the National Road, which is now U.S. Route 40.
