Ohio County is a small but historically rich county located in the southeastern region of the great state of Indiana, USA. Established on January 4, 1844, Ohio County was formed from portions of neighboring Dearborn and Switzerland counties. It was named after the Ohio River, which serves as its eastern border. The county seat is Rising Sun, which is both the largest and the only incorporated city in the county.

One of the earliest settlers in the area was Abel K. Hite, who arrived in 1816 and was instrumental in the establishment of Rising Sun. Ohio County played its part in the Underground Railroad, where networks of secret routes and safe houses were used by African-American slaves to escape into freedom in the mid-19th century. Indiana's first state park, Clifty Falls State Park, was also situated along the Ohio River in the nearby Jefferson County.

A fun fact about Ohio County is that it is the smallest county in Indiana by both population and land area. With less than 6,128 residents (as of the 2020 Census) and a land area of about 86 square miles, Ohio County offers a close-knit community atmosphere and an abundance of natural beauty due to its proximity to the mighty Ohio River.
