Rush County, located in the great state of Indiana, was established on December 31, 1821, and named in honor of Dr. Benjamin Rush, one of the signers of the Declaration of Independence. The county seat is Rushville, which still serves as the center of county government today. The land on which Rush County stands was originally for Native American tribes, such as the Miami and Shawnee.

The county experienced growth in the 19th century due to the development of agriculture, mainly corn and hay production. With the arrival of railroads in the mid-1800s, Rush County became more connected to other markets, further stimulating growth in the region.

At the turn of the 20th century, the county underwent a transition as agriculture was modernized and automobile production became a prominent industry in Indiana. The county later saw a decline, like many rural communities after World War II, as residents migrated to larger, urban centers for employment opportunities.

Fun Fact: Rush County is home to the Big Blue River, the longest free-flowing stream in Indiana. The picturesque river is an attraction for tourists and locals alike, who come to fish, kayak, and enjoy its natural beauty.
