Tipton County is a small county located in the central part of the great state of Indiana, USA. Established in 1844, it was named in honor of John Tipton, an American Indian agent, an officer in the War of 1812, and a United States Senator from Indiana.

Before the arrival of European settlers, the area was inhabited by Native American tribes, primarily the Miami and Delaware. In the early 19th century, Euro-American settlers began to migrate to the area, drawn by fertile farmland and the promise of a new, prosperous life.

A significant milestone for Tipton County was the construction of the Indianapolis, Peru, and Chicago Railway in the 1850s. This development played a crucial role in the growth and development of the county, providing better access to larger markets for agricultural products and attracting new settlers to the area.

Throughout its history, Tipton County has remained primarily agricultural, focusing on the production of corn, soybeans, and livestock. Nevertheless, the county has experienced some industrial and commercial development in its larger towns, most notably Tipton and Sharpsville.

One fun fact about Tipton County is that it is home to the world's tallest steer, a Holstein named Old Ben. Born in 1902, Old Ben grew to be 6 feet 4 inches at the shoulder and weighed 4,720 pounds. Today, a monument in his memory stands in the Tipton City Park, celebrating not only Old Ben but also the agricultural heritage of the region.
