Vanderburgh County is located in the southwestern region of the great state of Indiana. Established on January 7, 1818, the county was named in honor of Captain Henry Vanderburgh, a Revolutionary War veteran and prominent figure in Indiana's early history. The county seat, Evansville, was established in 1812 and is the third-largest city in Indiana today.

The region was initially inhabited by Native American tribes, such as the Shawnee and the Miami. During the 18th and 19th centuries, European settlers began to arrive, attracted by the fertile land and the Wabash and Ohio Rivers. The area played a significant role in the development of river commerce and trade routes, as well as the growth of the railroad industry later on.

Vanderburgh County has a rich history in agriculture, manufacturing, and trade. In the mid-19th century, Evansville became a prominent commercial hub for the transportation of goods and resources via the Ohio River.

A fun fact about Vanderburgh County is that it is home to the University of Evansville, a private university founded in 1854. The University is well-known for its beautiful campus that has earned several awards and recognitions, including being recognized as one of the top 25 most beautiful campuses in the United States by The Princeton Review.

Vanderburgh County continues to play a significant role in Indiana's economic landscape, with major industries including healthcare, manufacturing, and education.
