White County is located in the northwest region of the great state of Indiana. It was formed in 1834 and named in honor of Colonel Isaac White, who was killed during the Battle of Tippecanoe in 1811. The county covers a total area of 508.82 square miles, and its county seat is the city of Monticello.

In its early history, White County was predominantly inhabited by Native American tribes, including the Potawatomi and Miami people. European settlers, mainly from the eastern United States, began arriving in White County in the early 19th century, attracted by the rich farmland and other natural resources. The construction of railroads in the mid-1800s facilitated the movement of people and goods, contributing to the growth of the county's economy.

The region's landscape features a mix of plains, hills, and lakes, including Lake Shafer and Lake Freeman, which were formed as part of the Tippecanoe River project during the 1920s. These lakes have since become popular recreational destinations, not only for White County residents but also for visitors from around the state and beyond.

Industry and agriculture have been the mainstays of White County's economy. The fertile soil and favorable climate allowed for the farming of corn, wheat, and soybeans, as well as raising livestock. In more recent times, the county has diversified its industry, and now includes manufacturing, as well as wind energy.

A fun fact about White County is that it is home to Indiana Beach Boardwalk Resort, a popular amusement park that was established along the shores of Lake Shafer in 1926. The resort features a variety of attractions, including roller coasters, water slides, and other amusement rides, drawing thousands of visitors to the area each year.
