.Cloud County, located in the great state of Kansas, was first established on March 27, 1867, and named after American Civil War Colonel-turned-politician, William F. Cloud. The county is situated in the north-central part of Kansas and covers an area of approximately 718 square miles. Concordia serves as its county seat and most populated city. In the early days, the area primarily attracted settlers due to its fertile soil and abundant resources, including the Republican River which runs along the county's southern border.
One of the main railroad lines that contributed to Cloud County's growth was the Union Pacific Railroad, which extended through the county in the 1860s, connecting the region with the rest of the state and providing access to East Coast markets. This led to an increase in agriculture and the establishment of several small towns.
Cloud County experienced a population boom at the end of the 19th century thanks to the Homestead Act, which encouraged settlement through land ownership.
