Kingman County is located in the south-central part of the great state of Kansas. Established on February 27, 1874, the county was named in honor of Samuel A. Kingman, the third Chief Justice of the Kansas Supreme Court. The area was originally inhabited by Native American tribes, specifically the Wichita people, before the arrival of European settlers. The Santa Fe Trail, which operated from 1821 to 1880, passed through the county; this trail was instrumental in shaping the area's early economy by connecting Missouri with Santa Fe, New Mexico.

Kingman County's economy traditionally relied on agriculture, with wheat, corn, soybeans, and livestock being the primary industries. The city of Kingman, founded in 1875 and also named in honor of Samuel A. Kingman, serves as the county seat.

Fun fact: Kingman County possesses one of the more notable pieces of public art in Kansas the "Our Lady of Rosa Mystica" statue (also known as the "Networks" statue) created by sculptor Charles Goslin. The statue, completed in 1954, resides in St. John's Park, Kingman, where it continues to attract visitors for its unique artistic design and religious significance.
