Marshall County is located in the northeastern part of the great state of Kansas. Established on August 25, 1855, the county was named in honor of Chief Justice John Marshall, who served on the U.S. Supreme Court from 1801 to 1835. The county's rich history can be traced back to the mid-19th century when the Kansas-Nebraska Act allowed new territories to decide whether they would permit or prohibit slavery.

As a result of this act, settlers from the Northern and Southern states flocked to the territory, hoping to influence the final decision regarding slavery. Many Northern settlers made their homes in Marshall County, contributing to the growth and development of the region. The county seat, Marysville, was founded in 1854 and named after Mary Marshall, the wife of Francis Marshall, an influential early settler.

Throughout its history, Marshall County transformed into an agricultural community, with fertile soil supporting various types of crops and livestock. The county also served as an important transportation hub, especially during the construction of the Pony Express in 1860, which connected St. Joseph, MO, to Sacramento, CA.

A fun fact about Marshall County is that it was the location of the first and only Pony Express home station in Kansas, situated in Marysville. The home station, known as the "Pony Express barn," still exists today and operates as a museum, attracting visitors interested in learning more about this fascinating chapter of American history.
