Meade County is a beautiful region in the great state of Kansas. Established on March 20, 1873, and named after General George G. Meade, who served in the Union Army during the American Civil War, the county has a rich history.

Initially, the area was inhabited by Native American tribes like the Cheyenne and Kiowa, who favored the land for its fertile soil and abundant water. The first European settlers arrived in the late 1870s and established ranches and farms in the region. The Meade Center, the town that would later become the county seat, was founded in June 1885.

The arrival of the Chicago, Kansas, and Nebraska Railway in 1887 spurred the growth of the county, attracting more settlers and businesses. Livestock raising, agriculture, and rail access made Meade County a significant contributor to Kansas's economic development.

Throughout the early 20th century, educational institutions, churches, and cultural centers began to sprout up in the county, reflecting its prosperity and growth. The population reached its peak in the late 1950s.

Today, Meade County remains an essential agricultural and cattle center, upholding the traditions of its early settlers.
