Norton County is located in the northwestern region of the great state of Kansas, United States. Established in 1867, the county is named in honor of Captain Orloff Norton, a Civil War officer who was killed during the Battle of the Blue in 1864. The county covers an area of 881 square miles and has a population of around 5,500 residents.

Norton County has a rich agricultural history, with fertile soil and abundant water resources contributing to its thriving wheat, corn, and livestock industries. The first settlers arrived in the region during the 1870s, lured by the promise of fertile farmland and the burgeoning railroad industry, which was expanding westward across the state. The county seat and largest city is Norton, which was founded in 1872 by Dr. W. Brier and named after Captain Norton.

One fun fact about Norton County is that it is home to the "Five State Lookout," one of the few locations in the United States where it is possible to see five different states from one vantage point. Located in Cawker City, the Five State Lookout offers a panoramic view of Kansas, Colorado, Nebraska, South Dakota, and Wyoming.
