In the 1870s, European settlers migrated to Osborne County, predominantly English and German immigrants who were drawn by the prospect of affordable land offered through the Homestead Act of 1862. These settlers developed the agricultural industry in the region, primarily focusing on crop production and livestock farming. Osborne County is known for its production of wheat, alfalfa, sorghum, and corn, as well as raising cattle and hogs.

One fun fact about Osborne County is the presence of the World's Largest Easel, located in the town of Downs. This 80-foot-tall wooden structure was built in 2000 and currently displays a 32-foot by 24-foot replica of Vincent van Gogh's masterpiece, "Sunflowers," symbolizing the agricultural temperament and artistry of the county.
