Bell County, located in the great state of Kentucky, was established on August 1, 1867. It is named in honor of Joshua Fry Bell, a prominent Kentucky lawmaker, and the county seat is Pineville. The area was home to Native Americans before European settlers, primarily of English and Scotch-Irish descent, started to arrive in the 18th century. The county's early economy centered around farming, logging, and coal mining.

Bell County is nestled in the heart of the Appalachian Mountains, offering stunning landscapes and abundant natural beauty. It is perhaps best known for the Cumberland Gap, a historic mountain pass that served as a natural gateway to the western frontier. The Cumberland Gap played a significant role in westward expansion as countless pioneers, including the famous explorer Daniel Boone, passed through the gap en route to the rich lands of the west.

A fun fact about Bell County is that it is home to the Pine Mountain State Resort Park, which is the first state park in Kentucky. Established in 1924, the park covers more than 1,700 acres of mountain ridges, and it boasts an array of outdoor activities including hiking, golfing, and birdwatching. Furthermore, visitors flock to the park to witness the awe-inspiring Chained Rock, a 101-foot rock formation, which, according to local folklore, was chained together by local residents to protect the town of Pineville from the rock that once threatened to roll down the mountain.
