.Boone County, Kentucky, was established on June 15, 1798, and was named after the famous American frontiersman, Daniel Boone. The region was first explored by European settlers in the late 1700s and was originally part of Campbell County. Located in the state's northernmost point, Boone County borders Indiana and Ohio along the Ohio River.
The first permanent settlers were John and Mary Tanner's family, who built their cabins near present-day Petersburg, where Mary Tanner is known as the first white woman to set foot in the region, as early as 1789. Agriculture was the primary driver of the local economy in the early days, with the fertile soil providing ample opportunity for farming. Tobacco farming turned to be one of the main crops that helped the county prosper.
In the 1830s, the Cincinnati-Covington Railroad was built, promoting Boone County's economic growth and providing access to larger markets, fostering population growth in the area.
