Butler County, located in the great state of Kentucky, was founded on January 18, 1810, from parts of Ohio and Logan counties. The county was named after Major General Richard Butler, a distinguished officer in the American Revolutionary War who was later killed during the Battle of the Wabash. Morgantown, the county seat, was also founded in 1810 and was named in honor of General Daniel Morgan, a renowned figure in the Revolutionary War.

The county is situated in the western coal field region of the state and spans an area of 428 square miles. Agriculture has historically played a significant role in the county's economy, with products like corn, soybeans, tobacco, and livestock dominating the landscape.
