Caldwell County is located in the western part of Kentucky and was established on January 31, 1809, by an act of the Kentucky Legislature. The county was formed from parts of Livingston County and named in honor of John Caldwell, a prominent politician who served as lieutenant governor, speaker of the Kentucky House of Representatives, and as a member of the U.S. House of Representatives.

The county seat is Princeton, which was founded in 1810 and named after the Battle of Princeton during the American Revolution. In its early years, Caldwell County's economy was primarily based on agriculture, with tobacco and corn being the main crops.

Caldwell County played a significant role during the Civil War, with the Battle of Fort Donelson taking place not far from the county's western border. The county suffered from guerrilla raids and skirmishes and was occupied by Union troops for some time.

Throughout its history, Caldwell County has been the birthplace and residence of notable Americans such as Alben W. Barkley, the 35th vice president of the United States under President Harry S. Truman, and Confederate General Lloyd Tilghman, who was killed at the Battle of Champion Hill during the Civil War.

A fun fact about Caldwell County is that it is home to the Pennyrile Forest State Resort Park, a popular destination with a variety of outdoor recreational activities such as hiking, camping, fishing, and golfing. The park is also known for its large, beautiful lodge built in the 1930s by the Civilian Conservation Corps.
