Henderson County, located in the great state of Kentucky, boasts a rich and fascinating history. Established in 1798, the county was named in honor of Colonel Richard Henderson, a pioneer, land speculator, and a key figure in the area's early development. Nestled along the Ohio River in the western part of Kentucky, Henderson County has served as a vital transportation hub and center of trade for centuries.

The county's early settlers largely consisted of pioneers from Virginia and North Carolina, and farming became the main occupation in the region with tobacco being a primary crop. As the 19th century progressed, Henderson County saw an increasing number of immigrants from Germany and Ireland, who contributed further to its growth and development.

Henderson County was also the site of several significant Civil War engagements, specifically during the 1862 Newburgh Raid, when Confederate troops, under the command of Brigadier General Adam Rankin "Stovepipe" Johnson, mounted an attack on the nearby supply depot in Newburgh, Indiana.

One fun fact about Henderson County is that it is home to Audubon State Park, named after the world-famous painter and ornithologist, John James Audubon. Interestingly, Audubon resided in the city of Henderson for a while during the 1810s, and many of his renowned bird illustrations were inspired by his observations in the area. The park itself is a popular destination for bird-watching, hiking, and enjoying the natural beauty that this region of Kentucky has to offer.
