Henry County is located in the north-central region of the great state of Kentucky. Founded in 1798, the county was named in honor of the renowned statesman, Patrick Henry, who served as the first and sixth Governor of Virginia. The county was created from a portion of Shelby County, one of the original three Kentucky counties established along with Jefferson and Fayette in 1792.

Predominantly rural and agricultural, Henry County features an abundance of farmland, proudly supporting a thriving agricultural community for over two centuries. The landscape is characterized by rolling hills, picturesque pastures, and quaint small towns.

The county seat is situated in the city of New Castle, which was originally called "The Crossroads" due to its central location between Louisville, Lexington, and Cincinnati. New Castle is home to many historic buildings and landmarks, including the Old Henry County Courthouse, built in 1800, and the Henry County Jail, built in 1842.

One interesting and fun fact about Henry County is that it was the birthplace of Wendell Berry, a notable American writer, poet, and environmental activist. Berry was born in the county in 1934 and often used the rural life and communities of Henry County as inspiration for his writings about sustainable agriculture, conservation, and traditional agrarian values.
