Knott County, located in the great state of Kentucky, was established on May 5, 1884. It was formed from parts of Breathitt, Floyd, Letcher, and Perry counties. The county is named in honor of James Proctor Knott, who served as a United States Representative and was also the 29th Governor of Kentucky.
