Leslie County, located in the great state of Kentucky, was formed on March 29, 1878. It was named in honor of Preston H. Leslie, who served as the state's governor (1871-1875) and later as governor of the Montana Territory from 1887 to 1891. The county is situated in the heart of the Appalachian region, with its seat in the town of Hyden. Positioned in the eastern part of Kentucky, Leslie County is part of the traditional coal-mining region of the state.
