Metcalfe County is a small rural county in the beautiful state of Kentucky, USA. Established on March 29, 1860, it was named after Thomas Metcalfe, the tenth governor of Kentucky who served from 1828 to 1832. The county is located in the south-central region of the state and covers an area of approximately 291 square miles. The county seat, Edmonton, was named after a city in the United Kingdom.

One of the key historical events in Metcalfe County was the infamous Battle of Gwynn Island during the American Revolution. In 1779, the battle took place between the local militia and British forces led by General William Howe. Although a small part of the war, this battle played a vital role in the struggle for American independence.

As for the economy, Metcalfe County's early development largely depended on agriculture, especially tobacco farming. However, over the years, the economy has diversified and now includes industries like manufacturing, healthcare, and retail trade, among others.

A fun fact about Metcalfe County is the annual "Edmonton-Metcalfe County Pumpkin Festival," which takes place in downtown Edmonton every September. This family-friendly festival features live music, games, food vendors, a pumpkin weigh-off competition, and a variety of pumpkin-themed events that bring the community together to celebrate the fall season.
