Nicholas County, located in the Bluegrass region of Kentucky, was established on December 18, 1799. It was the 42nd county to be formed in Kentucky and was carved out from parts of Bourbon and Mason counties. Named after Colonel George Nicholas, a prominent lawyer and revolutionary war veteran known as the "Father of Kentucky Constitution," this county holds a special place in Kentucky's history.

Covering an area of approximately 197 square miles, its county seat, Carlisle, was founded in 1816 and named in honor of Charles Suddarth, who donated land for the original town site. The county's fertile soil, abundant water sources, and rolling hills have supported generations of farmers and agricultural endeavors, particularly in tobacco production.

One interesting fact about Nicholas County is the Blue Licks Battlefield State Resort Park, which marks the site of the last battle of the Revolutionary War that was fought in Kentucky. The Battle of Blue Licks took place on August 19, 1782, and the park serves as a historic site to honor those who fought bravely during the battle. The park also contains one of the largest natural springs in the region, providing visitors with a picturesque natural setting to learn and explore the rich history of this county.
