Ohio County is located in the western part of the great state of Kentucky. It was initially formed on December 17, 1798, from portions of Hardin County, making it the state's 29th county. The county was named after the Ohio River, which runs along its northern border. The county seat and largest city is Hartford, historically known for its industrial activities such as coal mining and its bluegrass music heritage.

In the early days, Ohio County thrived on agriculture, with farms producing corn, tobacco, and livestock. Throughout its history, Ohio County played a role in the Civil War, where the county was divided in its loyalty.

Ohio County is recognized as the home of bluegrass music, the American roots music genre that originated in Kentucky. Fun fact: It is also the birthplace of the famous bluegrass musician Bill Monroe, who was born in Rosine, Kentucky, in 1911. Bill Monroe earned the title of "Father of Bluegrass" and became an influential figure in the development of bluegrass music. A popular tourist attraction, the Bill Monroe Museum and Memorial Park in Rosine, pays tribute to this legendary artist and his contributions to the world of music.
