Simpson County is located in the south-central part of the great state of Kentucky. It was established on January 1, 1819, named in honor of Captain John Simpson, a distinguished soldier and lawmaker during the War of 1812. The county's seat is Franklin, which was founded in 1820, and named after Benjamin Franklin.

Simpson County's early economy was primarily based on agriculture, with major crops being tobacco, corn, and wheat. The county witnessed gradual industrial development with the arrival of railways in the 1850s, opening up business opportunities and boosting the local economy.

During the Civil War, Simpson County's geographic location made it a strategic site with both Union and Confederate forces passing through the area. As a result, there were several skirmishes in the county.

One fun fact about Simpson County is that it was once home to the world's largest tobacco warehouse, the Franklin Tobacco Warehouses. These warehouses played a major role in the thriving economy of the area during the late 19th and early 20th centuries. The growing importance of automobiles and trucks led to a decline in the railway system, prompting the warehouses to close down. However, they still serve as a reminder of the county's influential past in the tobacco industry.
