Spencer County is located in the Commonwealth of Kentucky, USA. It was formed on January 7, 1824, from parts of Shelby, Bullitt, and Nelson Counties. The county was named in honor of Captain Spier Spencer, an American hero who fought and died in the Battle of Tippecanoe during the War of 1812. The county seat is Taylorsville, which was established in 1799 and named after Richard Taylor, the father of Zachary Taylor, the 12th President of the United States.

The economy of Spencer County has historically been reliant on agriculture, with crops such as corn, soybeans, and tobacco being the main products. Over time, however, the county has developed a more diverse economic base, including manufacturing and services industries.

One fun fact about Spencer County is that it is home to Taylorsville Lake, a beautiful 3,050-acre reservoir, which was completed in 1983 by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. Taylorsville Lake State Park, which surrounds the lake, offers various recreational activities such as boating, fishing, camping, and wildlife viewing, making it a popular destination for tourists and residents alike.
