Todd County is situated in the southwestern region of the great state of Kentucky. Established on April 1, 1820, it was named in honor of Colonel John Todd. Colonel Todd was a remarkable figure in Kentucky's history, participating in the Revolutionary War, the Indian Wars, and serving as one of the earliest US representatives from the area.

The land that makes up modern-day Todd County was initially the hunting ground of various Native American tribes, including the Cherokee, Shawnee, and Chickasaw. European settlements in the region began in the late 18th century with the arrival of families like the Morgans, Adairs, and Williams, primarily from the Carolinas and Virginia.

Agriculture played a vital role in Todd County's development, mainly focusing on tobacco and corn. The county's central position between Nashville, TN and the Green River provided an advantageous location for trade, eventually creating a prosperous economic hub in the area.

Todd County was also the birthplace of Jefferson Davis, who later became the President of the Confederate States of America during the American Civil War. His birthplace, Fairview, has since been turned into a historic site known as the Jefferson Davis State Historic Site. This site features a 351-feet tall concrete obelisk which is considered the tallest of its kind in the world dedicated to an American.

One fun fact about Todd County is that it is home to the annual Tobacco Festival, which celebrates the region's rich history in the cultivation of the tobacco crop. This event features various activities, including live music, parades, art exhibits, and more, bringing the community together to honor their traditions and heritage.
