Wolfe County, located in the Appalachian region of the great state of Kentucky, was established on March 5, 1860. Named in honor of Nathaniel Wolfe, a prominent lawyer and legislator in the state, it is part of the Eastern Mountain Coal Fields region. The county seat is Campton, a small but vibrant town. It covers an area of approximately 223 square miles, with a population of about 7,240 as of the 2020 census.

Historically, the area was inhabited by Native Americans including Shawnee and Cherokee tribes. European settlers, primarily of English and Scotch-Irish descent, began to move into the region in the late 18th century. The timber industry played a major role in the growth of Wolfe County as it provided employment opportunities and fueled its economic development.

One fun fact about Wolfe County is that it is home to the stunning Red River Gorge Geological Area, known for its unique sandstone cliffs and rock formations. This area attracts rock climbers and outdoor enthusiasts from all over the USA and the rest of the world, making it a popular destination for adventure seekers. The Red River Gorge is also part of the larger Daniel Boone National Forest, providing visitors with miles of hiking trails, incredible views, and multiple camping opportunities.
