Established on June 12, 1912, Allen Parish was formed from the western section of the former Calcasieu Parish. Located in the southwestern part of Louisiana, Allen Parish is named in honor of former Confederate States Army general and Louisiana Governor, Henry Watkins Allen.

The parish boasts a rich cultural history, with a diverse population including a mix of European, African, and Native American settlers. Early inhabitants primarily engaged in agriculture, as well as forestry, tapping into the area's lush woodlands.

The town of Oberlin is Allen Parish's official seat, with Kinder, Oakdale, and Elizabeth being other significant towns within the parish. Throughout its history, Allen Parish has seen continuous development and growth, particularly in the towns of Kinder and Oberlin.

A fun fact about Allen Parish is that it is home to the Coushatta Casino Resort, which is a major tourist attraction in the area.
