Assumption Parish, located in the great state of Louisiana, is a region with a rich historical background that dates back to the 18th century. Established on March 31, 1807, Assumption Parish was one of the original 19 parishes of the Territory of New Orleans. The area was named after the French term "La Chapelle de l'Assomption," recognizing the Roman Catholic Church of the Assumption's influence in the region and paying homage to the Virgin Mary's ascension into Heaven.

Before European settlement, the area was home to the Chitimacha and Houma Native American tribes. French settlers were the first Europeans to arrive in the region during the early 18th century, and they were soon followed by Spanish and then English settlers. The region's diverse cultural roots are still noticeable today in place names, architecture, and local traditions.

During the late 18th and early 19th centuries, Assumption Parish became a hub for sugar cane cultivation due to its fertile soil and climate. Consequently, the economy was heavily reliant on plantations and the forced labor of African slaves. The 19th-century plantation system in Assumption Parish contributed to the area's rich historical heritage, and many plantation houses have been preserved as historic sites.

One fun fact about Assumption Parish is that it is home to the oldest and longest-running festival in Louisiana: the Napoleonville Fair. The fair was first organized in 1870 and is held annually in the village of Napoleonville, the parish seat. The event celebrates local culture, promotes community spirit, and features music, food, games, and attractions.
