Beauregard Parish is located in the southwestern region of the great state of Louisiana. The parish was established on January 1, 1913, after being carved out of the western portion of Calcasieu Parish. It was named in honor of the Confederate General Pierre Gustave Toutant-Beauregard, who was a prominent figure in the American Civil War.

The history of this area, however, predates its creation as a parish. The land was initially inhabited by various Native American tribes, such as the Atakapa, Caddo, and Choctaw. In the early 18th century, the first European settlers, primarily French, began to arrive in the region, and the land subsequently came under both Spanish and French control before being acquired by the United States as part of the 1803 Louisiana Purchase.

The lumber industry played a significant role in the development of Beauregard Parish. The construction of the Kansas City Southern Railway in the early 1900s facilitated the shipment of timber and led to a boom in the local economy. The parish seat, DeRidder, was established in 1898 and became an important hub for the timber industry. Agriculture was also a primary economic driver, with crops such as cotton, corn, and sweet potatoes being cultivated in the region.

A fun fact about Beauregard Parish is that it is home to the Gothic Jail, also known as the Hanging Jail, in DeRidder. Constructed in 1914, this unique structure served as a prison until 1981 and is now listed on the National Register of Historic Places. It is said to be haunted, owing to its history of housing and executing prisoners, with several reported ghost sightings and paranormal incidents. The Gothic Jail attracts tourists and paranormal enthusiasts from all over the USA, contributing to the parish's cultural heritage.
