Bienville Parish, located in the north-central part of the great state of Louisiana, was founded on March 14, 1848. It was named in honor of Jean-Baptiste Le Moyne de Bienville, a French-Canadian naval officer and the colonial governor of French Louisiana. Bienville Parish is spread across an area of about 819 square miles and has a population of approximately 14,000 people as of 2010.

The parish's rich history dates back to the early 18th century when French explorer Henri de Tonti established a trading post in the area. The region witnessed various land disputes and changes in power between European settlers, such as the French, Spanish, and British, throughout the 18th century. In the early 1800s, the United States acquired Louisiana as part of the Louisiana Purchase from France, paving the way for its statehood in 1812.

The economy of Bienville Parish was primarily based on agriculture, with cotton plantations being the main economic driver. The parish's economy also relied on timber and later on, oil and natural gas production. These resources still play a significant role in the local economy today.

One fun fact about Bienville Parish is that it is home to the Saline Bayou recognized as a Wild and Scenic River by the U.S. Congress in 1986. The Saline Bayou is the first waterway in Louisiana to receive this designation, and it is known for its magnificent natural beauty and recreational opportunities, including canoeing, fishing, and wildlife observation.
