Concordia Parish is located in the eastern part of Louisiana, along the Mississippi River. It was created on March 31, 1807, making it one of the 19 parishes created during the territorial period of Louisiana. The parish was named after the Latin word for "harmony," symbolizing the harmonious relations between the Spanish and French settlers who initially inhabited the area.

The town of Vidalia, which is the parish seat, was established in 1811 by Don Jose Vidal, who was the Spanish Governor at the time. Its location on the Mississippi River has played a significant role in the parish's economy and growth throughout history. The region is home to several antebellum plantation homes, which were once some of the most prosperous cotton plantations in the country.

During the Civil War, the area saw several skirmishes and battles, including the Battle of Goodrich's Landing on June 29, 1863. This skirmish was between the Union forces, led by Brigadier General John Ward, and the Confederate forces under General Richard Taylor.

Today, Concordia Parish is known for its diverse natural resources, agriculture and agribusiness, as well as the tourist attractions related to the Mississippi River, such as the RiverView RV Park and the Vidalia Conference Center.

A fun fact about Concordia Parish is that in 1973, two engineers, Edwin Miller and Don S. Coons, discovered "TSIolkovsky," a 120-pound meteorite near Monterey. This meteorite is one of the largest ever found in Louisiana and is named after Russian scientist Konstantin Tsiolkovsky, who anticipated many concepts of space travel in his research.
