East Feliciana Parish is located in the southeastern part of the state of Louisiana, USA. Established on February 17, 1824, the parish initially covered a vast area, but West Feliciana Parish was carved out in 1827, reducing its size considerably. The name "Feliciana" is derived from the Spanish word "Felicidad," meaning happiness, and the region was named so to commemorate the Spanish land grant of Governor Bernardo de Galvez.

The parish has a rich history that dates back to Native Americans who initially inhabited the area, followed by the arrival of the French and Spanish explorers. The area was a significant part of the Louisiana Purchase in 1803, which facilitated the growth of the European population. The parish seat, Clinton, was founded in 1824 and was a lively and prosperous town during the 19th century.

East Feliciana Parish was mostly rural with a strong agricultural base attributed to the cultivation of cotton, sugar, and corn. The antebellum era saw the establishment of many large plantations that were dependent on slave labor. The parish played a vital role in the Civil War, providing soldiers for the Confederate Army and resources to support the war effort.

A fun fact about East Feliciana Parish is that it is home to the Centenary State Historic Site, which used to be a campus for Centenary College - one of the oldest chartered liberal arts colleges west of the Mississippi River. Founded in 1825 in Jackson, the college relocated to Shreveport in 1908, leaving behind its majestic buildings that now serve as a fascinating piece of Louisiana's history. Visitors can explore the old campus and learn about 19th-century education in the area.
