Jefferson Davis Parish, located in the southwestern part of Louisiana, finds its roots in the early 20th century. Established on June 12, 1912, it was carved out from the neighboring parishes of Calcasieu and Acadia. The parish was named in honor of Jefferson Davis, the President of the Confederate States of America during the American Civil War.

The region has a rich history influenced by the Native American, French, Spanish, and African cultures. The early European settlers were French Creole from Canada and Acadia and their strong influence persists in the form of architecture, traditions, and cuisine. In 1765, it became a settlement for exiled Acadians when Joseph Broussard Dit Beaulieu led a group of fellow exiles who established the Beausoleil' settlement along the Mermentau River.

One of the major industries in the parish has been transportation, as it was connected to the Mississippi River System by the Mermentau River. This led to the establishment of several towns in the late 1800s and early 1900s, like Lake Arthur and Jennings, which later became the parish seat.

A fun fact about Jefferson Davis Parish is that it serves as a major host for the annual Louisiana Fur and Wildlife Festival, which takes place in January in the town of Cameron. The festival features a wide variety of activities, such as celebrations of traditional Cajun music, cooking competitions, and showcasing local hunting, fishing, and trapping practices. The festival has been recognized as one of the "Top 20 Events" by the Southeast Tourism Society, making it a popular tourist attraction in the region.
