La Salle Parish is located in the central part of the great state of Louisiana, in the southern United States. The parish was created on January 1, 1910, by the Louisiana Legislature from parts of Catahoula, Ouachita, and Winn Parishes. It is named after the French explorer Rene-Robert Cavelier, Sieur de La Salle, who navigated much of the Mississippi River and contributed significantly to the exploration of the American interior during his expeditions.

The area that would become La Salle Parish was initially inhabited by indigenous tribes long before Europeans settled there, such as the Choctaw tribe. The region prospered due to its rich natural resources, including timber, cotton, water, and vast farmlands.

Jena, the largest town in La Salle Parish, serves as the parish seat, meaning it is the location of the parish's local government offices. Other towns and villages within the parish include Olla, Urania, and Tullos.

One fun fact about La Salle Parish is that it hosts the annual La Salle Fall Festival in Olla, which features live music, a street fair, and a parade. The event is a community gathering that celebrates the local culture and heritage, attracting family-friendly fun and entertainment for residents and visitors alike.
