Pointe Coupee Parish, located in southeastern Louisiana, has a rich history that dates back to the early 18th century. The parish was founded in 1722 by French settlers and named after the region's unique geographical feature: a sharp bend in the Mississippi River called "La Pointe Coupee" or "The Cut-Off Point." It became one of the earliest European settlements along the Mississippi River.

The region thrived thanks to its fertile soil, which was ideal for growing crops such as sugar cane, cotton, and corn. Additionally, its strategic location along the Mississippi River facilitated trade and transportation. Its population grew in the following years, and it became a melting pot of various racial and ethnic groups, including French, Spanish, African, and indigenous peoples.

In 1763, after the Seven Years' War, the region became a Spanish possession for a period of time, until it was ceded back to France in 1800. The United States then acquired Pointe Coupee Parish as part of the Louisiana Purchase in 1803. In the years that followed, the region continued to prosper and played a significant role in the economic development of Louisiana. The parish played a role in the Civil War, with both Union and Confederate forces vying for control of its strategic location along the river.

One fun fact about Pointe Coupee Parish is its connection to literary history. "The Awakening," a famous novel by Kate Chopin, is partially set in this region. Chopin, who was known for her daring portrayals of women's lives in the late 19th century, drew inspiration from her experiences and observations while living in Louisiana, including her time spent in Pointe Coupee Parish.
