Saint Helena Parish is located in the southeastern region of the great state of Louisiana. Established on March 31, 1810, it is one of the state's oldest parishes, created on the same day as Louisiana became the 18th state of the United States. The parish is named after Saint Helena, a Christian saint, and mother of Emperor Constantine, who is credited with founding many churches throughout the Roman Empire. Saint Helena Parish is part of the greater Baton Rouge Metropolitan Area.

The region is roughly bordered by the Mississippi state line to the north, Tangipahoa Parish to the east, Livingston Parish to the south, and East Feliciana Parish to the west. The parish seat is located in the town of Greensburg, named after American Revolutionary War hero, General Nathanael Greene.

Saint Helena Parish has historically played various roles in Louisiana's history. In the 18th and 19th century, agriculture, particularly cotton, and timber were significant economic drivers in the region. The area also holds historical significance, as it was involved in the events surrounding the West Florida Rebellion in 1810, which led to the annexation of this region by the United States.
