Saint Martin Parish is located in the southern region of the great state of Louisiana, USA. It was founded on September 17, 1811, and named in honor of St. Martin of Tours, a prominent bishop of the early Christian church. The parish is part of the Acadiana region, which encompasses 22 parishes of Cajun and Creole cultural heritage in South Louisiana.

The region of Saint Martin Parish has a rich history, dating back to its early settlements by the Acadians who were expelled from Nova Scotia, Canada, in what is known today as the "Great Expulsion" or "Le Grand Derangement" of 1755. The Acadians settled in the region around the Bayou Teche and began to build a thriving community based on agriculture, fishing, and hunting.

Saint Martin Parish is known for its vibrant culture due to the blend of French, African, Spanish, and Native American influences. The region is known for its unique cuisine, lively music, and outdoor recreational opportunities.

One fun fact about Saint Martin Parish is that it is famously known as the "Crawfish Capital of the World." The town of Breaux Bridge, the largest in the parish, formally became the crawfish capital in 1959 when the Louisiana legislature passed a bill promoting the town's role in the state's crawfish industry. Breaux Bridge hosts the annual Crawfish Festival, which attracts thousands of visitors to enjoy Cajun food, live music, and various other festivities.
