West Feliciana Parish is located in the eastern part of Louisiana, situated on the west bank of the Mississippi River. The parish was established in 1824, and its rich history is intertwined with the growth and development of the surrounding areas.

The origins of West Feliciana Parish can be traced back to the Spanish colonial period when it was part of the Nueva Feliciana region that extended from the east bank of the Mississippi River towards the west. The region was initially named Feliciana in honor of King Ferdinand of Spain's wife, Queen Maria Feliciana.

In the early 19th century, the region was under the control of the United States, following the 1803 Louisiana Purchase. Land disputes between the Spanish and American settlers ultimately led to the 1810 Declaration of Independence of the Republic of West Florida, which included the Feliciana region. The Republic of West Florida was short-lived, and it was annexed to the United States later in the same year. Subsequently, in 1812, Louisiana was admitted to the Union as the 18th state.

As the population in the area increased, Feliciana Parish was divided into two separate parishes in 1824: East Feliciana Parish and West Feliciana Parish. The town of St. Francisville, which became the parish seat, was incorporated in 1819.

West Feliciana Parish boasts scenic landscapes, antebellum homes, and a vibrant community that is proud of its history. Its economy was mainly based on cotton plantations in the 19th century, which in turn contributed to the wealth of the area. The region is also known for its significant contribution to Louisiana's timber and oil industries.

One fun fact about West Feliciana Parish is the Myrtles Plantation, considered to be one of the "most haunted homes" in the United States. Built in 1796, the plantation is now a bed-and-breakfast that attracts tourists who are fascinated by its eerie tales and history. The Myrtles Plantation is also recognized as a historic landmark on the National Register of Historic Places.
