The Massachusetts state quarter was designed by Tom Engeman and was released in 1999. It features a Minuteman on the front, symbolizing the Revolutionary War, with the words "The Bay State" written at the top. On the back of the quarter is a sailboat and an image of the dome of the Massachusetts State House. The design represents the maritime history of Massachusetts and the importance of the sea to the state. The phrase "The Spirit of America" is also written at the bottom of the design.

The Massachusetts National Park quarter from the America the Beautiful Quarters program was released on July 11th, 2016 and is the 40th coin of the series. The coin features the Minute Man National Historical Park located in Concord, Massachusetts. The reverse of the coin features a closeup of a Minuteman statue that stands in the park. The statue depicts a Revolutionary War militia member and is meant to symbolize the bravery of the local militia during the Battle of Lexington and Concord. The reverse of the coin also features the words "Minute Man" and "1775" to commemorate the start of the Revolutionary War. The obverse of the coin features the traditional image of George Washington, which has been featured on all quarters since 1932.
