Antrim County, located in the great state of Michigan, was established on April 1, 1840. Originally named Meguzee County, it was later renamed Antrim County in 1843 after the county in Ireland. The county is part of the Traverse City Metropolitan Statistical Area in the northwestern Lower Peninsula of Michigan.

Antrim County's rich history stems from its early Native American inhabitants, as well as European settlers who came to the area in search of farmland, lumber, and water-powered mills. That demographic mix led to a diverse and thriving economy based on agriculture, timber, and manufacturing in the late 19th and early 20th centuries.

One of the key towns in Antrim County is Elk Rapids, which was settled in 1848 by Abram Wadsworth and began to prosper with the construction of the Elk Rapids Iron Company in the 1850s. The company provided jobs, brought economic growth, and ultimately contributed to the development of other businesses in the area. Additionally, Bellaire, another prominent town, became the county seat in 1904.

Today, Antrim County is known for its natural beauty, including numerous lakes and rivers, as well as its outdoor recreational opportunities. Tourism, agriculture, and various small businesses form the backbone of the local economy.

Fun fact: Antrim County is home to Torch Lake, which is Michigan's second-largest inland lake and is often considered one of the most beautiful lakes in the world. Its vibrant turquoise waters have earned it comparisons to the Caribbean Sea.
