Clinton County is located in the U.S. state of Michigan. Established on March 2, 1839, it was named in honor of DeWitt Clinton, an American politician who served as the Governor of New York and a prominent figure in the development of the Erie Canal. The county seat is St. Johns, a city known for its agricultural heritage.

Clinton County is characterized by rolling hills and fertile farmland. In its early days, the area was primarily settled by European immigrants who were attracted to the abundant land and resources. The first settlers arrived in the 1830s, many of them from New York, New England, and Ohio, and they were soon followed by German, Irish, and Dutch immigrants.

Agriculture has always played a vital role in the economic development of Clinton County, from wheat farming in the early days to the growth of the dairy industry in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Today, the county remains an agricultural hub and is known as the "Mint Capital of the World" due to its extensive production of mint oil. In fact, over 90% of the mint oil produced in the United States comes from Clinton County.

One fun fact about Clinton County is its annual Mint Festival. Held each August in St. Johns, the festival features a wide range of activities, food, and entertainment, including mint farming demonstrations, mint-themed dishes, and a peppermint parade, all celebrating the County's unique connection to the mint industry.
