Kent County is located in the western region of the great state of Michigan and is well-known for its rich history and unique attractions. Established on March 24, 1831, Kent County was originally inhabited by Native American tribes, such as the Hopewell Indians and the Ottawa Indians, before European settlers arrived in the early 19th century.

The county was named after New York jurist James Kent, who had played a significant role in developing the legal system in Michigan. Grand Rapids, the county's largest city, was founded in 1826 by French fur trappers, and later became incorporated in 1850. Grand Rapids is known for its vibrant and thriving furniture industry, earning the nickname "Furniture City." In the late 1800s and early 1900s, the city was a prominent hub for the production of fine-quality furniture due to its vast supply of lumber from the surrounding forests.

The Gerald R. Ford International Airport and the Gerald R. Ford Presidential Museum, honoring the 38th President of the United States, are also located in Kent County. Grand Rapids is recognized for its strong focus on arts and culture, hosting the annual ArtPrize event - an international art competition and exhibition - since 2009. This event has helped the city to gain global recognition and increased tourism.

Now, for a fun fact: Kent County is home to Frederik Meijer Gardens & Sculpture Park, a unique 158-acre botanical garden and outdoor sculpture park that opened in 1995. The park includes an iconic 24-foot tall bronze horse sculpture named "The American Horse" created by renowned artist Nina Akamu, which was inspired by Leonardo da Vinci's original plans for a similarly enormous horse sculpture.
