Lapeer County is a county located in the southeastern part of the Lower Peninsula of Michigan, United States. It was founded in 1822 and named after the French word "la pierre," meaning "the stone," a reference to the region's abundant limestone deposits.

The county's early economy was based on agriculture and lumbering, and it later became a hub of manufacturing and automotive production in the 20th century.

One fun fact about Lapeer County is that it is home to the Michigan's oldest continuously operating courthouse, which was built in 1846 and is still in use today. The courthouse, located in the city of Lapeer, is known for its distinctive design and Italianate architecture. It has been listed on the National Register of Historic Places since 1971.
