Lenawee County is a vibrant region in the southeastern part of the great state of Michigan. Established on December 26, 1826, Lenawee County is named after a Shawnee word meaning "Indian" or "man." The county's earliest settlers were mainly of English and Irish descent, who were attracted to the area's fertile lands and abundant water sources.

Adrian, the county seat, was founded by Addison J. Comstock in 1826, and was initially named Logan. Lenawee County initially experienced growth thanks to the Erie and Kalamazoo Railroad, which established Adrian as a crucial transportation hub on its route from Toledo, Ohio, to Chicago, Illinois.

Throughout the 19th and 20th centuries, Lenawee County experienced industrial growth as numerous manufacturers set up operations in the area. Industries such as farm machinery, carriage and wagon-making, and automobile parts were the key drivers of the county's economic development.
