Ogemaw County is situated in the northeastern part of Michigan, USA. Established on March 2, 1840, it was initially attached to other counties, such as Saginaw and Midland, for administrative purposes. It wasn't until February 12, 1875, that the county was fully organized. Ogemaw County, covering an area of 575 square miles, has its county seat in West Branch.

The name "Ogemaw" is derived from the Ojibwe word "ogimaa," meaning "chief" or "leader." The region was home to Native American tribes, particularly the Ojibwe people, before the arrival of European settlers in the early 19th century. The lumber industry played a crucial role in the region's development, with the first sawmill established in 1863. The following years saw rapid growth as railroads were built and people settled in the area, attracted by the abundant natural resources and fertile farmland.

A fun fact about Ogemaw County is that it hosts the annual Ogemaw County Fair in August, which began in 1969. The fair has been held continuously since then and includes a variety of events such as carnival rides, livestock exhibits, and live entertainment, bringing together the local community and visitors to celebrate the county's agricultural heritage.
