Beltrami County is located in the great state of Minnesota, USA. Established on February 28, 1866, it was named in honor of Italian mathematician Giuseppe Beltrami, who was famous for his explorations in the region around the upper Mississippi River. The county has an integral historical connection to the Ojibwe people (also known as Chippewa), who are native to the Great Lakes region.

The county seat, Bemidji, was established in the 1890s, deriving its name from the Ojibwe word "bay-may-ji-ga-maug," which translates to "a lake with crosswaters." Bemidji played a crucial role in the logging industry boom, which propelled its growth at the turn of the 20th century. With the arrival of the Great Northern and the Soo Line railroads, the settlement flourished.

Beltrami County is home to a multitude of lakes and outdoor recreational activities. From fishing and boating to camping and hiking, outdoor enthusiasts are sure to find plenty to do in this picturesque region.

Fun fact: The world-famous statues of Paul Bunyan and Babe the Blue Ox, located in Bemidji, have garnered a reputation as an iconic depiction of American folklore. Attracting thousands of visitors annually, these statues have become synonymous with the city of Bemidji and Beltrami County.
