Fillmore County is located in the southeastern part of the great state of Minnesota. It was established on March 5, 1853, and named in honor of the 13th President of the United States, Millard Fillmore. The county seat, Preston, is also known as "America's Trout Capital," owing to the numerous trout streams in the region.

The first settlers in Fillmore County were primarily from Scandinavia, Germany, and England. They were farmers who cultivated the land for crops, particularly wheat, and later diversified into dairy farming. The establishment of grist mills, sawmills, and other manufacturing industries helped to drive early economic growth in the county. The construction of railroads in the latter half of the 19th century further spurred development by connecting Fillmore County to larger markets.

Today, Fillmore County covers an area of approximately 862 square miles and has a population of around 20,000 residents. It is characterized by a blend of agricultural, forested, and bluff lands, which provide a picturesque landscape for outdoor recreational activities such as fishing, hunting, and hiking.

A fun fact about Fillmore County is that it is home to the Minnesota State Veterans Cemetery Preston, which was dedicated on Memorial Day in 2015.
