Grant County is located in the western part of the great state of Minnesota, USA. It was established on March 6, 1868, and named after the 18th President of the United States, Ulysses S. Grant, who served from 1869 to 1877. The county seat is Elbow Lake. It covers an area of approximately 575 square miles and had a population estimated to be around 6,000 inhabitants as of 2020.

The region was originally inhabited by Native American communities, particularly the Dakota and Ojibwe tribes, before European settlers started to arrive in the mid-19th century. The county's development significantly accelerated after the passage of the Homestead Act in 1862, which provided incentives for settlers to move westward and claim land. Farming and agriculture, particularly wheat production, became the primary drivers of Grant County's economy.

One fun fact about Grant County is that it is home to a rare and unique natural feature known as the "hilly siltstone" or "Iron Range," located in Tipsinah Mounds Park. This distinct geographical feature is important in understanding the regional geology, and it is recognized as one of the few areas in the state that preserves native prairie land. In addition to its scenic beauty, Tipsinah Mounds Park also hosts several ancient Native American burial mounds, providing a fascinating glimpse into the region's rich cultural heritage.
