Hubbard County, located in the great state of Minnesota, was established on February 26, 1883, and named in honor of Lucius Frederick Hubbard, a prominent Minnesotan who served as the state's ninth governor. Situated in the northern region of Minnesota, the county has a total area of 1,000 square miles, with Park Rapids serving as its county seat.

Historically, the area was inhabited by the Ojibwe (Chippewa) tribe, who occupied the region when European settlers arrived. The first white settlers began arriving in the late 19th century, attracted by the abundant natural resources, particularly timber. The logging industry played a significant role in Hubbard County's early development.

Later, the establishment of train services, notably the arrival of the Great Northern Railway in 1892, contributed to the growth and development of the area. Gradually, agriculture, tourism, and small-scale industries replaced logging as the primary economic activities in the county.

A fun fact about Hubbard County is that it's home to the Itasca State Park, Minnesota's oldest state park, which was established in 1891. The park is best known for being the headwaters of the Mississippi River, offering visitors a chance to walk across the mighty river at its source before it journeys over 2,300 miles to the Gulf of Mexico. This unique experience makes the park a popular destination for tourists and nature enthusiasts.
